M.Sc.(Bio-Chem)

Master's in Biochemistry (Molecular and Cellular)

Stream : Life Sciences and Medicine
Course Type : Full Time
Duration : 4 Years

  • The biochemistry course at Oxford is a four-year integrated Masters course, leading to the degree of M.Biochem. (with honours). It is certified to provide Bologna compliant level 7 qualifications
  • The course is offered by The Biochemistry Department in Oxford which is one of the largest in Europe
  • The course concentrates on molecular aspects of biological functions in the plant, animal and microbial kingdoms
  • 1st year is essentially a foundation year, where it is ensured that all students have the basic knowledge and skills across the scientific spectrum to cope with the more advanced studies in years two and three
  • The second and third years consist of a broad survey of molecular cellular biochemistry. This is organised into four courses:
    • Macromolecular Structure and Function
    • Bioenergetics and Metabolism
    • Genetics and Molecular Biology
    • Cell Biology and the integration of function
  • The 4th year is a research focussed year, in which students can specialise in the areas that interest them most

Class 12th

  • Year XII qualification, studied with either the CBSE or ISC examination boards, with an achievement of 90% in each of the five subjects studied
  • Science subjects may also require that candidates take the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) entrance examinations as a pre-condition for entry
  • Subject Required: Chemistry & another science subject (Mathematics, Physics or Biology)
